David Bowie Revisited

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
I fell down
It wasn’t far
But in that distance life shot past
with indeterminate speed
I was the moon, falling,
David Bowie gliding to earth
Lost in a desert
Alien to myself as to all around
I grabbed a midnight Pan Am and headed to New York,
Landed in Idlewild,
Memories not yours.
You, the simple one I used to be,
After all the searching
Found life was only what I needed.
Shadows crawled out from the walls,
Dreams of freedom being mine
As you fell into cracks and crevices so small
That hopes of retrieving you were insane.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

103 years, Judge Ingram said,
as Weberman lowered his head,
charged with crimes of acting out,
found guilty, on 59 counts,
child sexual abuse, towards a 12 year-old girl.
His religion could not excuse,
his heinous acts, his moral turpitude,
an unlicensed therapist upon an unwitting soul.

“I would cry until the tears went dry,”
the victim sighed with head held high.
Now 18, married, she moved away,
her home in another place to stay,
for society still perverts the crime
to wrong the woman victimized.

Brooklyn D.A. Charles Hynes got it right,
wresting power from the powerful,
letting law see the light,
so victims will know their voices are heard
and justice once more rises at dawn,
to challenge the dark, one day at a time.

Subway in NYC

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
The trains pass, crowded with humanity,
a woman, crushed against riders,
with hair askew and packages in hand,
grabs hold the car’s gleaming pole,
struggling for space
as a myriad of hands,
unrelenting, begrudge her safety.
Out the window more trains pass,
each bears burdens of day’s woes,
work undone, promises broken,
jobs lost, some won,
though weariness surfaces in all–
the city takes its toll.
The woman exits, with little relief,
her evening a reflection of her day,
as cook and clean fill the hours,
till slumber calls
and sweet caresses of dreams obscure the city’s madding screams.

That doggie in the crèche…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
NYC–St. Patrick’s Cathedral–interior–crèche with dog–looks like a golden retriever

dog and god, one and the same
you can’t fake what’s in a name
forwards, backwards, it’s the same
dog and god are one name

dark nights, dark dreams

crowdblog
Down, down, and down
down
sewers
black holes with fetid water
the wine of a city
blinded by cheap lights
cheap thrills
too costly to survive
only in dreams.

On clouds
dreams ghost by
the gold ring beckons
horse heads break
ancient wood, brittle and neglected
your forgotten dreams
misunderstood
when horses ran round and round
and laughter was the only sound.

Now grown
decapitated and dethroned
you shuffle back and forth to work
down subway steps
towards black earth
and rats that scurry, finding death
anticipating you, along the way
will find the fall
complimentary.

You casually accept the entry
the underworld so grim
there to find your long-lost kin.

don’t jump…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

political issues aside
there are some things I really can’t hide
though finances are rough
not having a dog
is getting real tough
and depressed is a new state of mind

time past

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
In the boarding house across the way
Youth and age had made their way
One begins, one ends
For both the years did terrify,
Hours torment their minds away
Unpleasant days filled with fear
One enraged, the other in tears.

Remember time
Remember me
Remember how life used to be
Before we felt that cruelty
Was common to our every day
And conversations turned that way.

How was it then
When we were young
How fanciful the days begun
Bright sun and moon, a crystal sky
Snow flakes that made you question why
The world did spin and spin and spin
And dance around your every whim.

It comes together, this season called
Winter, cold and uncommonly hard
To pass without sheer agony
Settling in this timeless world.
Leaves truth behind,
Behind it stays
While trudging, we make our way
Bent, broken, all from birth
So lacking to the core, our worth.

Off the cliff!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
obliged to all
my brain dissolves
in New Year’s wine
in champagne’s fine
attributes
in chocolates and delicacies
that palates must attend
to such distress as tongues
and taste without refinement
as we pursue a state of sheer inebriation
without a hint of what the morn shall bring
in pain and torture
as heads collide on pillows softer
than an angel’s hand could lend.
Oh, we are, doubtless, a species of abuse!

ethos

oppressed
exigent days
New York fills me with a haze
of smoke and soot
abides not well
New York borders on the hell
of crass indifference
and yet to tell
it often proves a boon
a source of pride as all collide
and come together, side by side

A New York Nightmare

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASunnyside, so comforting a name
Now can only claim
A place of death,
Another in NYC.

Queens, so regal it proclaims
But harbors those who maim
And kill the innocent of this a city,
Inured to violence
A purple heart of death.

We honor killing, murder, depravity
And toss aside what’s left of our humanity
Replacing it with such insanity
That souls are set adrift.

Deterioration

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
When I awoke
The day just lay there
Stagnant.

Which dream was real
No hour longer than this day
Under cover though I stay
Tangled mess, my sheets tell the tale
of distress.

Never comfortable
The next awaits
And never arrives.

I wait
When darkness overcomes
To hide has just begun.

Death Tracks in NYC Dec 27

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAVictims of the city walls
All await a deadly fall
Through sewers, streets and shopping malls
The Subway tracks tell us all
That life is rotten to the core
When we neglect our neighbors call
No jobs, low wages, a scary sight
As politicians continue on
Wreak havoc on so many here
And food a scarce commodity
While rents increase and they rejoice
To those we pay a living wage
As we scurry to our grave.

A Global-Warming Christmas

(sung to the tune of “Let It Snow”)
Oh, the climate outside is heightening
All our fears of ice caps melting
And the oceans rising round
As we drown, as we drown, as we drown.

It doesn’t show signs of slowing
As the miles we drive keep growing
And we bury our heads underground
As we drown, as we drown, as we drown.

It’s a long way off I know
And still you see it snow
But if you really want to know
It’s an inch, not a foot!

So let’s huddle together once more
While there’s still winter we can adore
And even though I know
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

It’s Christmas!

The snow has fallen, not too deep
The forest comes alive.
As deer and fox and turkey scurry
They cannot wait
Hurry! Hurry!
Today is Christmas
Today is grand!pa280007snowblog3
Rejoice! Rejoice!
Throughout the land!

In darkness

Ghosts
Choking as the phantoms grasp-
It never ends.

The memories
Damn the memories.
Heart sickens at the time past, the future narrowing.

Enemy and friend.
Mind blanks and then retrieves convoluted queries
All answers unavailable.

He was the most handsome.
Not I, but you said this.
I, who watched his growth
His muscles swell into a well seasoned athlete
Honed by meticulous care.
Yes, I did this.
With only memories left to console.
This I have done to myself.

Winter’s Holiday

lamb blog
In winter’s white
The open field is swallowed in a foot of snow
Another and another falls
Till nothing on horizon shows.
Then antler disappears, though buck stands six feet tall
And bull a breadth beyond that height–
The world outside is very white.

Then quick return to hearth and home
The blankets beckon, no more you roam.
Till spring melts in a river flow
And summer flowers bow down low.

Elemental Life wasn’t kidding when they called this mesmerizing. Even an entrance to the building (the second image) makes you dizzy!

The Elemental Life

The transient quality of water served as the inspiration for the brick pattern on facade of the Lanxi Curtilage building, designed by Archi Union Architects.  An algorithm that mimics the behavior of water served to produce the bricks, but the labor was actually done by hand.  The result is pretty mesmerizing.

how can a woman be upset?

So, this is about
A woman friend of mine
Who said she was upset
At Obama’s reelection,
And I ask, why?

Romney was against abortion, but she did not think she should would take responsibility for a child of a women forced to conceive, no matter what the reason.
She did not care that he had no thoughts or comments on whether women should be paid equal pay for equal work.
He would privatize Social Security, and possibly leave millions of Americans destitute.
And health care? Well…

So, why was she upset?
She is not rich.
She depends, partially, upon her husband’s pension (they are both recently retired).
She is upset at the increasing property taxes and health care costs.

Is there someone who can enlighten me?

From your humble blogger, runningwithellen

post peace train, #2

I’m going slowly, slowly on the peace train, peace train, ride in
The stations are filled at Grand Central, Grand Central station, New York City
But we won’t forget
When we hop that train peace train
The pain and the terror that does prevail
The longing the fear, the sadness, the tears
the endless hours, the days of fears.

I’m here waiting, waiting the peace train, New York station.

I’d rather sleep in, but I do not dare, for here it comes, the peace train.

You all forget that Carter was hot
A man of superior intellect
Who honored our values and sought to return
To democracy the way it deserved.

But now I’m afraid, afraid that the peace train, the peace train will never arrive.
We’ve used all our luck and a little beside, the peace train sent adrift to collide

I’m down on my knees, ready to concede, we’ve lost the greatest peace to succeed
The one where we realize that truth and thought can be attuned
To a new life, just and viable too…
Where we never fear our next meal
Or the cold of winter or the searing heat.

I’ve been thinking, thinking it’s a long battle, long battle, long battle
Never resolved in my years on earth, too long, it’ll outlast us.
So I look around and think to me, whatever can make us free,
It’s the love of life, family and friends, our neighbors, pets and in the end
Relinquishing thoughts that only “us” are right, correct and only just to fight…
That our neighbors have valid ways to live
Even though not like us
And our children play…
Our earth may survive our trip to hell.
On the peace train, the peace train.

I’m looking forward to a peace train, worldwide, a peace train.

Addendum:

Runningwithellen, long napping, sends his best!

the train left the station…

hummed to the tune of Cat Stevens “Peace Train”

Now I’ve been thinking lately, about the bad things to come
And though you don’t believe it, they’ve already begun.

Oh I’ve been crying lately, seeing the world come apart
And though you don’t believe, its already begun.

Cause in the night, coming slowly, comes disaster
Oh Romney, Obama, ride us, ride us into the ground again.

Now I’ve been thinking lately, about the bad things to come
And soon you will believe it, the worst is yet to come.

The bombs are sounding louder
The cries of hunger thunder round
People on the street
Destitute, you and me.

Everyone go for cover
Cover up, cover up

Write your will, your’s and your friends’ too
The end is gettin’ nearer, nearer to me and you.

Now to join the dead, six feet underground
Death is all around, in the air and in the ground.

The bombs are sounding louder
The cries of hunger
People on the street
Yes, destitute, me and you

Everyone get a shovel
Dig that earth today
Dig, dig, dig
Dig your grave away.

can you stop the tears?

i cry
eternally I cry
deep inside of you
tears flow
tears I know
long each one wept
we wept, through heartache
through life’s end
now we cry
past these
past every event
we cry for our end
finality it brings, loss eternally.

go quietly in the night

come join me
come join my tears
come see the world as it is.

come join me
come see despair in every corner of the world.
cry no more, for you are yet to join,
tears are ours,
tears are everywhere.

Come see pain first hand
technology will not prevent the torture at our hands.
We are inconsolable
We are replete with regret
as we dip into hell, past heaven’s gate.

Lord save me, though I do not believe.
But once, just once, prove you know the total despair
Wreaked on this earth from those who dare
to use your name to justify the horror
wrought
the suffering of generations to come.

Once I thought that being childless was sad, but now I know this is not so
That I did not endanger another
Nor contribute to the misery we are inclined to.
Look at me, my years unfolded
Long life I wished, one time I thought
Now I know, somewhere, not far, lies answers
To end now is the only answer
To stay a manifestation of a lie.

Outrage in Okinawa, New York Times, Nov. 2, 2012

Once an Osprey was a bird
Magnificent in its form, transcendent in its life,
We have turned nature to steel, the osprey to beast
Mechanical and huge
Lumbering in the sky on gasoline, blades chopping the air, heavy and cursed.

What have we done
Not only the sadness of the Okinawans burden our shoulders
We too bear the devastation of insanity.

Rape, perennial, lays fallow to be resurrected again and again,
Against the women
Against the men
Flesh torn, sullied
Minds crushed, numbed.

We do not answer.

We are the devils of the earth
Asleep
We will not rise till we are done
Incinerating our land, our men, our women
Incinerating our minds
Till our thoughts are no more.

Did you think a thought?
Not one, no more, as we follow, donkeys all, packed meaningless by our masters, slaves all, technology our master, Halliburton (etc) our owners.

And then Romney? Would woman have no right to her body? To work for less than man?
Control her, would you this?
Why must she pay for your ego?
You, who have not provided
You, who have demeaned her to maintain your own self-worth.

What plaything is she that
Without her, you would not exist
Is that your worry?
You, who are not whole, need another.
No god are you, lacking too, no charm nor feeling
Blunt you may be
She is the light of life
The sun for your warmth
The hawk in the wind, circling for the babe’s morning meal.
She is your other half
And all you do
All you can feel
Is a horror that she is something, someone you need.

Cry I, cry again and again.
Cry more and more each day.
Till tears are floods and floods tsunamis
Till my heart bears no more and I have ceased to be.

This is such a wonderful autumn recipe. Not only the tastes but the colors. I just had to share!

Massiskitchen

Ingredients:

  1. Riso
  2. half glass white wine
  3. Parmesan cheese
  4. Butter
  5. Salt&Peper
  6. Vegetable broth
  7. Beetroot
  8. White Onion

To start I cleaned the beet and I removed the skin (so you cook better) and let cook with plenty water and some   vinegar, (after almost an hour of cooking (you can feel with a fork….its get soft I drained, and I cut the beets into slices.

In the aluminum pan I fried the onion, beetroot , and rice, and I faded all with  the white wine (half glass) and at the end of the operation I added the vegetable broth, and I cooked the rice for 25 minutes about.

When the rice is almost al dente, I added a bit of butter, (mantecare. .. to make it more creamy) and i put some of Parmesan cheese.

For the cream of Beetsroot (I put part of it in a blender) with the…
